Automobile Take Home Policy to be
Discussed by BOA in September
The Raytown Board of Aldermen have decided to hold over discussion on the city’s policy concerning vehicles taken home by employees of the city until September.

At this time, the agenda has not been set for the September meetings. We will bring forth information provided to the Raytown Report once the agenda is set for public discussion on the topic.

Following is a partial list of information and data the Board has asked for to consider before making their decision.
  • The number of vehicles taken home by police personnel each day.
  • The round trip miles they are driven to those homes.
  • The cost of fuel and estimated wear and tear on vehicles taken home.
  • Policy on the private use of vehicles taken home by police personnel.
  • Discussion of implications as regards insurance costs due to private use of public vehicles.
  • Discussion on Internal Revenue Service as regards vehicle take home policies.
The Raytown Report will carry an analysis of the information in next week’s edition.

Oh well, let the Police do what they want and we will get get along and just watch our Hallmark movies and succumb to the CashnetUSA.com ads that are so honest and offer a great interest rate of over 500% per year or gamble on our state lotteries and scratch offs that offer us 2 winners out of every 10 tickets we buy. Well, maybe the real criminals are in our governments, in legal businesses supported by the governments and in our religions? Oh well, you all have a great day and pay your taxes and give all your money to the poor as Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have promised to do; but not right now.

It is good to see that we finally have a BOA taking their responsibilities seriously. The city does not have a take policy for vehicles. EAch department has cobbled together whatever they feel fit to do. Maybe this Board will take charge and create a uniform policy when it comes to taking vehicles home. It is our tax dollars paying for the gasoline and the operation of those vehicles. Time someone spoke up for us!

Andy Whiteman said...

Take home vehicles are generally for those city employees who are on call. For instance when I lived in Raytown Animal Control had an after hours emergency response. I asked an a/c person if he had to go fetch the truck and he said that those on call have a take home vehicle to respond with. The City Marshall is also subject to emergency call out. Where I live the PD has take home vehicles. Other police and sheriff's departments also have take home vehicles.

In my opinion the taxpayers deserve an accounting of the use of said vehicles and GPS is a reasonable accounting. Where I am the take home vehicle stays parked at the officer's home but I know of another department where personal use is allowed.

You do understand this has been discussed and policy put place in December, they are just adding language. I agree its nice to have a policy but lets not act like this happened now, it was a year ago. Yes it is ignorant that previous boards and mayors didnt set this up and it took the 2015 and 2017 boards to do something.

Anonymous said...

Poor Aldermen, can't see the forest through the trees. Why not focus on the real issues at hand and stop throwing hand grenades at the police. EMS is in the crapper, the WalMart TIF is sucking the life out of or city, violent crimes are up 300% from 3 years ago... Oh I almost forgot it not all bad, we do have the privilege of being the namesake for momma's family and our mayor got to take time from his busy bar stool schedule to give her a proclamation they I am sure found it's way into the trash.

Anonymous said...

I support he beneficial use of PD vehicles by officers when not on duty SO LONG AS...
The PD vehicle stays inside the Raytown City limits.
What's wrong with encouraging our police officers to become our neighbors?

Anonymous said...

I'm willing to pay for the take home car's gas to have a faster response time. That last swat operation was down from my house. I was so glad to see the officers pull up and have their equipment in their car. Worth every penny in my book!

Anonymous said...

If you think animal control will respond to your call after hours or on a weekend you have not called them lately. I challenge anyone to postively prove animal contrrol has shown up on a weekend call or after hours in the last year.

Just finished watching the BOA meeting and I must say I'm sick and tired of listening to the PD whine for more money. Some may disagree with me but let me tell you who needs a bigger office and that is the city clerk. The mayor has this huge office which is certainly wasted space. We have a mayor who is ceremonial only and he has a huge office which is wasted space. You never hear her complain and whine. Agree with me or not I am telling as I see it.

Anonymous said...

You really don't pay much attention do you and you sound like a joy to be around.

Anonymous said...

Wow you can always tell who you are by your response 9:37. Always negative always personally attacking people and making insane unsupported percentages and accusations. Very sad you can't make an intelligent comment.

Andy Whiteman said...

I don't know the present a/c policy but when I lived in Raytown a/c would respond for after hours EMERGENCIES. I did have them out at least twice when a wild animal engaged my dog. It did take some argument with the dispatcher that a/c had to respond for emergencies.

I agree with 9:37 AM that focus should be put on real issues but seemingly minor issues could be really important in the future. I always felt in the past the intent was to distract the taxpayers from the real issues so they could be ignored. Now maybe some of the sheepole are unfocused.

If you think the Wal-Mart TIF is bad now, wait until all of the litigations surrounding it hits the fan. The City won't be able to afford a pot to piss in. Malfeasance at it's best.

Anonymous said...

Andy,

Lynch go on a call?

Lynch will not even get on TV about crime issues.

Anonymous said...

As a voter, and resident of Raytown for 12 years, I find it appalling that the aldermen, Moore and Teeman specifically, treated the EMS official so unprofessionally. You are there to discuss what is being brought forward, not belittle. I expect more from our leaders in the future. WE will be watching the meetings

Anonymous said...

Hmmm same office and size Mayors have had as long as city hall has been there
Wow you are 9:37 obviously
Hateful, mean and uninformed

Anonymous said...

Actually, Lynch stopped when my mom was in a car wreck, and stayed with her until I could get there. I'll always appreciate that . He could have drove on by and nobody would have known. He stopped and helped. Actions>other's words.

Anonymous said...

Wrong. It embarrassing to watch an EMS director not run his department well or not prepared for a meeting. Get a clue and stop the waste!

Anonymous said...

You think that creates a faster response time? Suuurrrreee

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with 9:37 A.M.

Anonymous said...

What was unprofessional? That the board held him accountable? Get outta here.

Anonymous said...

As a voter and resident of Raytown for 21 years I'm happy that aldermen are standing up against waste! I WATCH the meetings and if you can't justify taking OUR money for an expense then you shouldnt be requesting it. Kuddos to Alderman Greene for making that conversation and change. Kuddos to Alderman Moore and Teeman for the questions they asked. This is how representation works.

Anonymous said...

Saying that the Ems director didn't have it together neither did the police department. They are so use to waltzing in making a request and waltzing out after getting it. Well guess what there is a new board on and it's over so suck up.

Anonymous said...

After seeing his ability and attitude It's now crystal clear why ems cannot keep staff. I am glad the Board is being fiscally responsible, but it's time they stop wasting money paying people who do not deserve a job

Anonymous said...

I agree with 7:30A.M. even the mayor can't save you on this!

Anonymous said...

7:30 I find it weird that you would say that about the police and getting what they want. Part of this board has been on thru several budget cycles and most of this board. If you had ever watched or Bennett in these meetings over the years to watch the budget process work, you would have seen that the burgers are always scrutinized along the way before they're finally passed. From what I've gathered this time round of the budget is just a lot tighter due to several factors from a long ago and that is why everything is being scrutinized. It is not just of the police department to that is going through this all of the divisions in the city are having to do the same thing .

I am no fan of Joe Creamer, but I think he scored a 3 point shot this week with his concerns over the public safety sales tax.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how long the Mayor will still try to get people to believe there is no financial issues in Raytown.

Maybe he is first waiting to use those famous words of Richard Nixon.

Anonymous said...

Once again people don't pay attention what's been said and what's been written. The mayor and board never said there weren't any financial problems they just made it clear that things were being said were not accurate or true about the financial situation at the time

Anonymous said...

Again what did that clown do when he was in office? Nothing but create problems and no accountability.

Anonymous said...

There needs to be an investigation of the public safety sales tax by the State. Granted Joe is not the most reliable source out there, he is confirming what we have all been suspecting for a long time. The 2009 Public Safety Sales Tax was a scheme dreamed up by the former city administrator to take pressure off the budget caused by the 2008 Wal Mart TIF. The problem with that is the fact it was sold as a tax to fund increases in the services we were receiving, not funding for what we already had. There is a hand picked oversight board who signs off on this every year even though the City has failed to deliver on their promises for 8 years. Joes editorial this week is finally the smoking gun needed to prove how corrupt the whole thing is.

Anonymous said...

I have not read Creamers letter, but it is good to see he has finally seen the light. When he was on the boa there was not a tax giveaway he did not support. He has either gotten smarter or is one the biggest political opportunists in town.

The writer going after Mrs. Breitenbach of Doughboys sounds like sour grapes. She complained loud and clear about the lack of information coming out of the p.d. about the crime situation in Raytown. From where I sit, she won this round. The police administration have wised up and are releasing more information about crimes in the area. That is a good thing. The more the public knows about the criminal element the harder it becomes for that same criminal element to ply their trade. I say way to go Elisa. Your a gutsy girl and I appreciate you taking a stand.

Anonymous said...

You would think the police would be much more supportive on anyone selling donuts.

Anonymous said...

The information has always been there. Just takes a little effort on your part of looking at the websote. There are constant press releases.

Anonymous said...

7:16
Where have you been? The information on the pd website has been there for years. When the website "Raytown Online" was active, they used to pull information straight from the pd web. Same with the Raytown Times. They do the same thing. It's just you guys don't know where to go to find the simplest information.

Anonymous said...

The police have released more information in the last 5 years than they did in the 30 years prior. They are on all the different social media sites. You actually might have to look...

Anonymous said...

I read the burnt ends editorial in the raytown paper. First, who is Bob? Second, why does he feel that he has the right to invade my privacy by looking at police reports. I WANT the police to continue to protect victim's privacy like they are. Bob can go around town and get the story like journalists do.

Anonymous said...

Prayers for the families of all of the policemen that were shot today, some killed. We can all agree on that.

Anonymous said...

Go with the latter.

Anonymous said...

Bob ain't a journalist but neither is randy. Bob doesn't even live here or talk to anyone, other than randy. The guy is a flake who struggles for relevance.

Anonymous said...

What did Joe do about it as an alderman, nothing. Now he complains even though his boy the former city administrator did a lot of these things.

Anonymous said...

I can certainly understand why the crime analyst needs a bigger office hell at the rate crime is going up out here he will need a 60 inch screen to draw circles around all the high crime rate areas.

Anonymous said...

10:53 Are you crazy. Your privacy is not being invaded the information is out there for all to see if they so want. Get a life.

Anonymous said...

11:46 A.M. you got it

Anonymous said...

My son's Cub Scout pack did a tour of the police department last fall. I may disagree with some things but the offices that they are wanting to improve look deplorable. I agree that they need office furniture that is professional. The shambles of desks and broken chairs that they are working with is an embarrassment for our city. I support them in having a professional work environment.

Anonymous said...

Please stop it. We are fully aware when you are lying. Your dog does not act like a trained service dog. Service dogs are very important to the people they serve, do not ruin it for them just because you can buy a vest on the internet.

Dan Wilson said...

11:01 am

I think most would agree the police deserve a professional work environment. However, as one of the aldermen pointed out Tuesday, he could go on the internet and buy the same desks, chairs, and other furniture brand new for 40% cheaper than the police is looking to spend. They need nice, sturdy furniture, but not top of the line executive stuff. I'm glad the BOA tabled the resolution and told the police to try again.

I heard there was a bobcat sighting in Raytown. Not sure if I believe that. They are very secretive animals. Probably just a stray

I think we need to keep young children inside during the eclipse. They can't be trusted to not look up without the glasses.

Anonymous said...

Be sure to keep your pets indoors during the eclipse. It is true that most animals do not spend much time looking at the sun -- but their eye site is as peril as much as ours should they look directly into the sun.

They don't want to look it up. They want to just sit on their rumps and gripe. They are a bunch of lazy malcontents who don't have a life and can't think of anything else to do than moan and groan and try to make other people miserable.

you guys don't have the stones to turn this town around. You don't have the stones to make the hard choices and clean up the area. Its ok but admit it instead of sitting behind your keyboard and typing up this drivel before you go to bed and pretend everything is ok.

you have no clue.
