I am not against DUI enforcement or getting people to drive attentively by increased traffic enforcement. However, the language of the grant looks like the overtime will be for speed control most likely.

What I am against is the huge amount of overhead (cost) it takes to spend a lousy $6000 on the effort. That is the waste I am referring to.

Also, for your information..... my daughter-in-law was smashed into by a young woman running a red light just two weeks ago. She suffered a broken collarbone and many other bumps and bruises. Their nearly paid for car was badly damaged and did not quite meet the level to be totaled so she and my son will suffer further through the loss of value due to the collision.

The young woman was texting as she ran the red light!!! Guess what? It is not against the law in Missouri to text while driving (if you are over 21). This is something I would like to see corrected.... IT SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE ILLEGAL TO TEXT AND DRIVE!!!

BTW.... as for DUI enforcement.. I see from the information in the grant contract, Raytown did not conduct one sobriety checkpoint last year.

One last thing. I actually do think before I speak.

Have a nice day. In watching the meeting they explained it was a reimbursement grant to put out personnel on extra details for DUI enforcement and other hazardous moving patrols
if you consider my family's lifes not worth the time to prepare the paper work, then you obviously have never seen the carnage on today's roadways or lost someone to a drunk or distracted driver. Somehow, I think, the "Save Our Turn Lane" movement has derailed the city's plan to redo Blue Ridge Blvd.

I was at City Hall a few days back and stopped by the public works desk and they rather sheepishly admitted that the engineered, planned and budgeted project had somehow been put on hold.

I don't have a dog in the fight either way (turn lane/bike paths), but it bothers me that people acting off record, behind the scenes, are able to exert such influence on the workings of our city.

BTW.... could be all wrong about this. Not sure because the actual use is to be disclosed in a supplemental document to follow!!
Makes me wonder how many high paid hours went into dreaming this up, writing the first draft, getting it rewritten and approved , submitting it for consideration by the city of Raytown, rewriting it again due to comments by the Raytown staff, and on and on

All for a $6500 "grant"???

And now it's approved, it will need to be tracked and invoiced according to the terms of the contract and the oversight by the state and city to get all the i's dotted and the t's crossed.

More money down the rat hole of the bureaucracy. This contract for a $6500 "grant" is, to me, a fine example of government waste in action.

Sorry folks, just needed to rant a bit this morning.

BTW... I have Googled her name, but have yet to see what background she may have to qualify her for a department head position.

When the City hires people who have no track record and have not led or managed anything it is in some ways insulting to the citizens who depend on Public Works for roads, storm water and other public utilities. This is one of the many reasons why the city's infrastructure is failing. Well grow up Jim, sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. In case you haven't noticed the voters voted for CHANGE in last April's elections and it appears they are getting some. (Not fast enough in my opinion) Jim has it all wrong ,as usual, It's the Board that sets the course and the department heads are to carry out their direction. If it weren't supposed to be this way we wouldn't need elected officials like you. Think about it, Jim. Aldermen are elected by a majority of a small percentage of the people! The same holds true for sales tax issues, bond issues, and the school board.

Andy WhitemanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3767127531333372490.post-10109129142835608642015-10-12T08:00:29.906-05:002015-10-12T08:00:29.906-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3767127531333372490.post-89382663046838117552015-10-11T17:32:09.415-05:002015-10-11T17:32:09.415-05:00Jim Aziere has so many problems doesnt he.
