The 9 Best Doughnut Shops in Missouri!

Doughboy's Donuts has done it again! This time they have been recognized as one of the nine best donut shops in Missouri. We shortened the list to the three donut stores honored in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area. A link to the original press release can be found at the end this truncated list. 

It has often been said that small businesses are the backbone of America. The recognition given Doughboy's is another feather in the cap of the City of Raytown. Congratulations to Elisa and Marjain Breitenbach for all they have accomplished.

Santa of the Year
Losher Kelley began his work as a Santa Claus calling children from the North Pole to help them make up their Christmas lists. After his hair and beard turned white, he bought his first Santa Claus suit. The one in this picture is the third suit he has purchased.
 
Not only does he look like Santa. He sounds like Santa!
 
Here is a little secret he shared with us. If you want to check out if Santa is the “real deal” give a tug on his beard or long white curly locks.

The last word . . . 
Last week we ran a story about Raytown receiving some free pole banners to promote city events. City Administrator Damon Hodges spoke of possibly using the pole banners to promote events like holidays, city wide celebrations, etc.
 
Alderman Walters believes the best course would be to promote the new Rock Island Bicycle Trail. By doing so the City would attract more out of town visitors which would help boost more business in Raytown.

Greg told me he had some out of town guests in the area last summer. He said, “We are all bicyclists, so we decided to ride the Rock Island Trail. We took our time, when we returned about three hours later, we stopped at Crane Brewery for a drink. The parking lot had at least 30 cars in it, but the bar was nearly empty . . . that meant the cars were owned people who were out riding the trail.”

Greg went on to say it is more "proof positive" that the Rock Island Trail is a popular trail that would attract many riders and shoppers to Raytown.

As one blogger posted this week, "Most bicyclists do not have a lot of expense in their hobby. This means many of them are a cash rich crowd who have adopted a health lifestyle. When they are done riding they like to relax with a good meal and something to drink. 
 
Raytown has a jewel of an opportunity here to boost the local economy. The Board should take the proper steps to make this opportunity a reality.

Happy New Year soon to you Greg and all your Raytown Report readers. This year has been a very hard year for most businesses in Raytown. Many closed down because of the virus. Ours was able to stay open with the ability to Car Hop. It was truly like working in a storm. Then when another small business went on the news trying to slander us and call us racist, we entered another storm. Life is full of Sunny Days & Storms. Fortunately for Doughboys one thing we are great at is weathering storms. During the storms we found out who are true friends are. We also found out we won two awards. One from Kansas City Magazine, that was shocked that their readers from Johnson County and the Plaza drove all the way over to Doughboys for their donuts, second only to Larmar's who has a number of locations. Last week we had out of town guest who dropped in. They shared with me how disappointed they had become with the Raytown Facebook pages that had been so full of hate directed at us. They also shared with me that obviously they must not have ever seen how much stronger the storms of life make us. I shared with them how, due to us making the National News, we received calls from all across America supporting us. And how whenever people are on vacation going through Kansas City, they stop in to say Thank You for standing up for America. They understand we are not racist. This last award, Nine Best Donut Shops in Missouri, was wonderful to end 2021 with. Thanks for sharing our award. We truly appreciate The Raytown Report. Thanks Greg!

Last year who else recalls all the political mailings that said the online tax question needed to pass so there was funding for snow removal.

The city employees must not have gotten the same mailings as 63rd Street and Raytown Road have not seen any attention from the voters approved funding.

I know this is one voter who recall the failed promises the next time the city is asking for funding.

Let’s Do a Poll!

I’ve been bouncing back and forth on whether or not to try this out. With the Missouri Primary Election just around the corner, I thought it would be interesting to conduct a poll of my fellow bloggers to see how it stands up to the actual results. Of course, there is no way to tell if anyone is voting more than once. Or, if they are jumping party lines – but it could prove to be at least as accurate as those polls that predicted Obama to thrash Hillary in New Jersey or the Nevada pollsters who failed to predict Ron Paul would finish second in the Silver State’s Republican Caucus. The poll is not scientific. But it could be fun. Since there are really two contests going on (and since it is MY poll and I get to make the rules) each participant is allowed to vote in both the Democratic and Republican primary.
