RAYTOWN RETIREE WINS $1 MILLION MATCH PRIZE IN POWERBALL from KMBC TV
A retired Raytown grandmother was the first person in Missouri to win the new $1 million Match 5 prize in Powerball. Roberta Sinclair bought her winning ticket for the drawing on Jan. 28. She matched all five of the white-ball numbers for the $1 million prize.
Before the game changed its rules in mid-January, matching five numbers but missing the Powerball was only worth $200,000. Sinclair said she couldn't believe it when she checked her numbers and realized she'd won. "I sat there and took it all in," she said.Sinclair, a retired General Motors employee who has three children and six grandchildren, said she plans to trade up to a newer car and may visit relatives in Arizona.

The 2012 Missouri Democratic Primary took place on February 7, 2012, resulting in an 88.3% win for incumbent President Obama. President Obama was slated to receive 89 delegates. Four candidates, plus uncommitted, were on the ballot.

It’s been some time since we conducted a poll at the Raytown Report. So, Greg and I put our heads together to see what we could come up with.
Other than the weather, most of the news has been on the Republican campaign for President of these United States.
Missouri’s turn in the national limelight is diminished this year because the Republican Primary contest is little more than a beauty contest. The vote totals will not be used in determining which delegates will be chosen or who they will support at a national convention. One of the major contenders, Newt Gingrich, isn’t even on the ballot.
The only candidate to campaign in Missouri has been Rick Santorum. He visited the Kansas City area last week when he gave a speech in Lee’s Summit.
The real campaigning will begin on March 17th when the Republican Party conducts its County Caucuses.
How do the Republican caucuses work?
- County Caucuses, March 17, 2012: Attendees will select delegates and alternates to the Congressional District Conventions and State Convention. Delegates selected at the county level will not be bound to a specific candidate unless a rule is passed by participants of the caucus.
- Congressional District Conventions, April 21, 2012: Delegates chosen at the county level will select 3 delegates and alternates to the National Convention and 1 presidential elector. These delegates and alternates will identify their candidate before being chosen. They will be bound to that candidate on the first ballot at the national convention.
- State Convention, June 2, 2012: Delegates chosen at the county level will vote on a slate of 25 at-large delegates and alternates to the National Convention and 2 at-large presidential electors. These delegates and alternates will identify their candidate before being chosen. They will be bound to that candidate on the first ballot at the national convention.
Since Missouri State Law does not require individuals to register by party, the process is open to any registered voter who attends the caucus.
THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY held next Tuesday (February 7th) is binding. It does not choose delegates but locks in percentages for the candidates running for the National Convention. It is a foregone conclusion that President Obama will win the contest. Still, there are 3 other candidates on the ballot who have filed for President on the Democratic ballot.

THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY is also conducting a primary next Tuesday. There is only one candidate on the ballot.
There has been criticism of both the Governor’s office and the Missouri Senate for dropping the ball in the handling of this year’s primary in Missouri.

Good News for Raytown Gateway Intersections by Greg Walters
In his weekly report City Administrator Mahesh Sharma wrote that the energy efficient street lights grant is nearing a close and the city has been notified that there is extra funding available. The city was originally scheduled to receive lights and services in a value not to exceed $120,000.00, but now the value of lights and services is now expected to be close to $140,000.00.
The increase in funding will now allow the city to install new energy efficient street light fixtures at all city-owned decorative street light fixtures at the city gateways.
The frequency of burned out bulbs, particularly at the 63rd and Blue Ridge Gateway has been an eyesore that has needed constant attention. The new bulbs are expected to be more resistant to the vibration from passing traffic. Hopefully the new, brighter bulbs will also enhance the visibility of the intersection and feeder roads at night.

I can't understand why the Republicans have disenfranchised Republican voters. Could it be because this is the Show ME State and they consider the voters too ignorant to vote?
The ignorant ones are the candidates. They spent the whole campaign bickering among themselves rather than addressing national issues.
Why should I waste my time and vote since it won't count? I have never hard of the Democrat candidates other than the Dictator, but the logical thing is to vote the Democrat ticket and vote for one of the unheard ofs.

I don't think Republicans have disenfranchised Repuulbican voters. The vote totals from the primaries are at historical highs. I will admit it has been a rough campaign for the party. But it is part of the process used to choose presidential candidates. I've seen just as nasty ones from the democrats. All you have to look to is four years ago and the bashing the Hillary Clinton took in the primaries from her opponents.
Isn't half of the expense of the election for the democratic primary?

We will just have to wait until after the Republican caucus before deciding if Mr. Santurum thinks it was a waste as the election last night doesn't count for anything, but wasting our tax dollars.
BTW: I never heard the word stupidly until it was used by the Dictator.

out of Kansas City! It seems that their city leaders would rather put the people at risk by cutting their fire fighters back. Heaven forbid they cut the city
workers that you see while going through KC. Usually there are five people watching and one working.
It is a shame that when city leaders waste and give away tax dollars the first cuts seem
to be police and fire departments. The two
most important, highest trained departments any city can have. Not to mention the money
spent on training these professionals.
I guess city leaders in KC have found the stupid pills too.
KCMO Mayor Sly James supports cutting firefighter jobs.
Does that mean that the Raytown Fire District is overstaffed?

For those that are able to understand this, also understand that city have mutual aid agreement even those who might have the nearest city being 20 or more miles away.
We could be inpacted by fire cuts in KCMO if we would need to count on mutual aid for a major fire or even a small fire at bowen apartments as we nolonger have a large ladder truck.
So next time you donot think that Raytown could be impacted, you better take that time to think things through first and get some honest answers.
