Robert J. Kuehl Appointed
Raytown Chief of Police
BY GREG WALTERS
Robert J. Kuehl has been confirmed as Raytown’s Chief of Police by the Raytown Board of Aldermen by a unanimous vote. Mr. Kuehl is 34 year veteran of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department where he serves in the Command Staff.
He is the first Chief of Police to be appointed Chief of Police since voters approved a change to an appointive Chief of Police in 2019.
Captain Randy Hudspeth has been serving as the interim Chief of Police since Jim Lynch resigned his position just over one year ago.
Mr. Kuehl is not a stranger to Raytown. He and his wife made Raytown their home when they started their family. Their house is literally less than one block from the city limits. His children were raised here and attended Raytown Public Schools. He and his wife are active in the community and proud to call Raytown their home.
Mr. Kuehl will begin his new job as Raytown Chief of Police on April 6th.

Thrilled that this individual is at the helm.
Far higher standards and an elevated level of professionalism await us.
RPD has been saturated with "locals" for seemingly decades, IOO - this is absolutely positive, transformative news.
A blogger has asked why comments were removed from earlier posts. As we posted last Sunday, we have had some technical problems with the Raytown Report. It is why we were not able to publish until Wednesday of this week. In the process of cleaning up what we believe was a virus related problem some posts on the blog portion of the Raytown Report were lost. We believe we have resolved the problem and will be back on our regular publishing schedule this week.
Thank you to all of those who expressed concern during our down time. It is much appreciated.
Welcome to the new Chief!

You don't consider that KC is "local"?
Or that he has decades of involvement in the Raytown area? (e.g. Raytown schools)
He seems "local" to me.
To 3/4/2020 @ 1:14 pm-We shall see, won't we!!
You don't consider that KC is "local"?
I think what they mean is that former Raytown "chiefs", although they gained a great deal of experience throughout the years, "came up" in a relatively small, somewhat insular and to some degree cliquish community.
The new chief is indeed what would be considered a "local", yet at the same time he isn't. By virtue of working in a far larger, more diverse department with greater challenges, I think that we all can agree that we're very happy that someone with his experience has been retained by the city.
The new Police Chief seems local to me too!
Why did the other blog go on some racist BS about the other candidate? I think all three finalist would have been good picks. I'm looking forward to having a chief that wasn't part of the year down that happened 3 years ago.
"...racist BS..."
What are you even talking about?
Cut it with the baiting, usual suspect.
The most qualified PERSON was chosen for that position.
The VERY last thing that any of us care about is someone's race, creed, color... Geez.
I think it is important that everyone thank our interim chief, Randy Hudspeth for leading the department during the transition.
Based upon my limited contacts with Mr. Kuehl, I am very encouraged by the selection of him for the position.
