August Primary
Spotlights two Elections
The
August Primary is a little over one month away. Raytown appears to be in the
crosshairs of a couple of political races of note. One of those races is for
the Missouri State Senate currently held by Senator Kiki Curls. Due to term
limits, Curls is not eligible to run for re-election to the seat.
Two
contenders are facing off in the Democrat Primary to be held on August 4, 2020.
Those two candidates are Barbara Anne Washington and Ryan Myers.
Mr. Myers
is currently serving his first term on the Raytown Board of Aldermen. Ms. Washington
is currently serving in the Missouri State House of Representatives. Both candidates
recently showed up at a meeting of the Raytown Democrat Association (RDA).
Myers
served one year as Mayor Protem of the Raytown Board of Aldermen. Washington
has earned a reputation as a hard-working Legislature who has shown an ability
to work across party lines to get legislation passed.
Both
candidates have shown their campaigns are alive and active. Myers has some yard
signs up. Washington and her volunteers have been spotted distributing
literature door to door in Raytown neighborhoods.
The
City of Raytown makes up about 12% of the Ninth Senatorial District in Raytown.
Another
race to keep an eye on will be the contest for the Jackson County Sheriff.
Incumbent Darryl Forte’ is being challenged by former Jackson County Sheriff
Mike Sharp. Sharp resigned the position of Sheriff in March of 2018. In a
letter to the County Executive Frank White Sharp wrote he was resigning his
seat due to a pending legal matter.
Forte’
served as Chief of Police to Kansas City, Missouri before he was chosen to
complete the unexpired term of then County Sheriff Sharp.

I am very impressed with Barbara Ann Washington, she has my vote. I would urge other voters to talk to her and I think you will be impressed too.
Someone adult child at city hall got their way and sign in front of the building.
I known it was a waste of money when I heard the city was considering it.
After seeing it the rest of us should now know it was a major mistake and misuse of tax dollars.
I cannot be the only one that is unable to read the digital sign.
I will not forget the waste the next time the city asks for funding for something.
I would like to find out what brilliant elected officials approved this waste.
@812
Ryan Myers voted for the sign, and if I recall, also didn't stop the illegal revote to approve it after it initially failed. If he can't handle something so small I have no faith he'll be able to handle the big boys and girls in Jeff city.
I walk by the new sign often. I must agree with the 8:12 poster. Even from a few feet away the sign is nearly unreadable. It must be the lowest resolution digital displays around.
Very poor use of our taxes.
Any word on the state audit?
It must not be good if it is taking this long!
I agree the sign is very hard to read. I believe the pixel is wrong on it. But who do you tell to fix it?

High school shop could have done a better job. And the task could have been completed for the cost of materials. It would have provided a learning experience.
I saw the post about not being able to read the sign in front of City Hall. I went to see for myself. There are several signs that scroll on the marque. They are:
Reminder – Complete your Census by October 31st
Stay Safe – Stay Healthy - Stay Apart
City Hall Open Modified hours through June
Mon: 8-4 Tues 8-5 Wed Closed Thurs 8-5 Fri 8-5
They are all clear and easy to read. Perhaps you need to get your glasses checked?
I see Count Executive Frank White has joined forces with the antifa folks by wanting to pull down statues of Andrew Jackson. Kind of weird for a guy who is the County Executive of JACKSON COUNTY! Andrew Jackson was our 7th President. He was the first American President who did not come from what was considered the aristocracy that had held sway until his election. He was a war hero who led the American troops in the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812 against the British. He organized militia to successfully fight the British and their Indian allies. During his time in office he is credited with expanding United State territory west towards the Mississippi River and south into present day Florida. His election as President is considered to be the beginning of the Democrat Party in America.
"His election as President is considered to be the beginning of the Democrat Party in America."
I didn't know that! Take it down now! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
