The last five days have been difficult
to watch . . .
Like many of you, I spent a good portion of the past week watching the sad state of affairs in our country this last week. What started as peaceful demonstrations against police violence in Minnesota has spread like wildfire across our country.

In watching the various cable networks and our local news outlets, it is apparent there are people attempting to divide our country. Their agenda is one of anarchy and fear. They await the late hours of the night to make non-violent protests appear to be marauding gangs of looters bent on destruction.

The leaders of this evil agenda are difficult to spot. What they cannot gain by legal means they try to take through intimidation. The vast majority Americans have clearly shown they know the difference between legal protest and fear mongering.

My heart goes out to the honest protestors whose message for change has been corrupted by those who hate the country that has given them so much.

I cannot say enough good about the police of the metropolitan area who collectively monitored and controlled the rioters in Kansas City. They did so without anger and a tactical professionalism that is admired.

My hat is off to Mayor Lucas of Kansas City for reaching out to the protestors. His was a lesson in how to respond in a difficult situation.

I pray that we can all look forward to better times. For an end to the corona virus and the unrest that has afflicted Kansas City.

Raytown police need to wear and use bodycams. Storage is cheap on terabyte drives. When there is an incident, assume that cell phones will be recording you anyway. Join the 21st Century Raytown.

Wasn't there a ballot initiative to raise taxes for the PD that FAILED a few years ago?

Body cams are great but will the public vote to raise taxes to fund them?

Something is fishy in Raytown and it not the inhabitants of the lake at Kenagy Park.

It seems like it was just yesterday the citizens approved tax renewal of the sales tax for the parks.

The citizens were promised improvements in exchange for passing the additional years of tax collection.

After seeing a post on the "Only in Raytown" Facebook page, I decided to take the family and visit Kenagy Park.

I am still in disbelief of the condition the park is in.

1 I am not sure when it was last mowed, but the grass is high enough that code would be harassing home owners.

2 The wall around the lake if you call it that has all, but completely collapsed into the lake. I recall it was at the top of the list to be fixed once voters approved the ongoing tax burden.

3 I spoke with others fishing about the condition of the park and was told I missed the real mess of trash all over the parking lot.

I stll don't understand as I have not seen a lot of people at the parks with all this social distancing drama.

How with the increase police as well as extra expense of a private security company payrols could their have been that much trash.

If the park board is not going to keep its promises to us the taxpayers it is time our Mayor starts cleaning up the that board.

On a positive note the restrooms where open again so the only droppings on the walking path should now be from the geese and disrespectful dog owners and not disgruntled taxpayers who were encouraged to get out for exercise and fresh air during the early days of the pandemic onlyto find the restrooms locked.
