BOA Approves Sump Pump
and Back Flow Valve
Assistance Program

The Raytown Board of Aldermen has approved a new Pump and Back Flow Valve Assistance Program for Raytown homeowners. The purpose of the program is to help stem infiltration of storm water run-off into the sanitary sewer system.

The program was approved unanimously by the Board of Aldermen. Funding was capped at $30,000. If more money is needed the Board can increase funding at a later date.

Storm water infiltration into the public sanitary sewer system decreases the capacity of the sewer which results in increased treatment costs to the city. This can lead to increased investigation costs, insurance costs and repairs to the city’s sewer system.

The program is designed to ease or even stop the flow of the runoff water from private property by helping pay for the installation of sump pumps and/or back flow valves to stop the flow of water into the sewer system.

The maximum payout per residence can total up to $3,000 in assistance for the installation of a sump pump or backflow valve(s).

Raytown homeowners interested in the program are encouraged to call the Raytown Public Works Department at 816-737-6012 to learn more about the Sump Pump and Back Flow Valve Assistance Program.

RAYTOWN PARKS . . .

The City/Parks Department has set up two high-definition cameras at Colman Park to compare their capabilities to capture license plates on Lane Ave. Both of the cameras were capable and would be an improvement toward that goal. He will get back to me with a proposal to install one of these options. The current camera that is not up to that task will be turned to face 59th Street, giving it a longer look at the vehicle and direction out of the park. The Parks Department will also be updating at least one parks owned area lights.

POLICE DEPARTMENT . . .

  • On April 1st, at approx. 12:30 pm, officers contacted a subject who reported that she had been involved in a road rage incident with another driver while leaving the parking lot of a business in the 10300 block of 350 Hwy. During the incident, the other driver fired a handgun, striking her car several times. She was not  injured but the car was damaged. The investigation is ongoing.
  • On April 2nd, at approx. 01:15 am, an officer conducting patrol at Colman Park, 5901 Lane Avenue found an occupied vehicle in the parking lot. He contacted the occupants and discovered that one of the subjects had multiple felony warrants for narcotics. A second person was found to be in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. Both subjects were arrested and charged in municipal court. The subject with the warrants was turned over to the Jackson County Jail.
  • On April 8th, at approx. 4:40 am, officers were made aware of a stolen KCFD ambulance approaching the Raytown city limits. Raytown officers located the ambulance in the area of 87th St & Raytown Rd and were able to successfully deploy stop sticks in order to flatten several of the vehicle’s tires. A pursuit then ensued. The vehicle ventually came to a stop along 350 Hwy in Kansas City and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Officers also discovered drugs in the suspect’s possession. KCPD is taking over the case and both the ambulance and the suspect were turned over to them.
  • There was one report of a sex crime this week. The incident happened at a location in Raytown sometime in March between two people who knew each other.

Thanks to the RPD for doing this. It keeps unwanted medicines from being flushed down the toilet and polluting our water supply.
