City Park Invaded by
All Terrain Vehicles (ATV)  BY PAUL LIVIUS

Colman Park is a premier Raytown City Park located on rolling hills at 59th and Lane Streets. It has state of the art tennis courts, softball field, two permanent shelter houses and a playground. It also has a small complex of walking trails. These popular trails are used by people living in the neighborhoods surrounding the park. People can be seen all hours of the day walking with friends, their dogs and generally enjoying the peace and quiet of their neighborhood park.

Lately, this tranquil scene has been shattered by the roar of ATV vehicles as their irresponsible owners ride on the trails, cut donuts in the ball field and drive at recklessly high rates of speed along Lane and 59th Streets and into the surrounding neighborhoods.

Another violation noted is that motorized vehicles used on public streets are required to be licensed. Witnesses have reported the ATV vehicles are not licensed.

A rider on an ATV swerves off the walking path to go around a pedestrian walking on the Colman Park Trail.

If you witness any of these dangerous and illegal events you are urged to call 911 immediately to inform the Raytown Police Department.

A four-wheel ATV and a small  dirt bike cut accross the green space at Colman Park. These two riders ended up in the outfield of the softball field where they repeatedly cut donuts into the wet turf.

Baby Fox Two Spotted BY GREG WALTERS

A local mail carrier has reported that he spotted a very young fox running across Hunter Street near its den. Additional traps have been set. The result, we caught a possum! Possums live solitary lives and qre known to adapt well into new environments. The middle-aged possum was released into the wild.

Our friends at Lake Side Nature Center tell us the Baby Fox has probably established an area near the den he was living in. They have urged us to continue with the trap and provided wild game meat to attract the fox.

MOONSCAPE

The City of Raytown unveiled its first public art sculpture, "Moonscape." Raytown joins the growing list of 20 Missouri cities and only one of three cities in the metro to partner with the Creative Communities Alliance's Sculpture on the Move program.
