Every Picture tells a Story (part 2)
Just before Thanksgiving we announced an art display of photography by Greg and Mecee Walters. As some are aware, Greg and Mecee had displayed some of their work at the Raytown Library on Raytown Road. This "new" display at Raytown City Hall does have some of the material shown at the Library.
This showing is expanded . . . with a mix of photos shown at the library and some new ones as well.
The showing is open to the Public during Raytown City Hall operating hours . . . 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday throughout the month of December.
The following photo (which is not being shown at City Hall) is a sample of what you can expect to see.

The picture is of a narrow city "street" between two buildings in Budapest, Hungary. The business owners along the street have painted the cobblestones with bright colors to lead potential customers to their stores. It worked well enough to lead us down the street.

Tax Forgiveness for vendors of Raytown event raises eyebrows
The Publisher of Raytown Community News (Morris Melloy) sent us a copy of a message he received from Ward 4 Alderman Theresa Garza. The message was one of putting out the word for the Raytown Community Tree Lighting program. The event has been held in Raytown for a number of years and, if the weather cooperates, usually brings out a good number of people to view the lighting.
What we found puzzling was the fifth and sixth paragraphs of Alderwoman Garza's message in which she wrote:
"NO RAYTOWN BUSINESS LICENSE IS REQUIRED FOR VENDORS OR POP-UPS FOR THIS EVENT!! (food trucks need county and state permits and Kansas City Metro HOA fire sticker, but no Raytown business is required for this event day)."

The main concern I have is how Raytown treats its residents. We are told by the Mayor we must follow the process. That process only applies to those who question the legitimacy of the e process the Mayor, and Aldermen by allowing him, to change the process to fit his and his supporters needs.
So the question is, what is the process and when are the statute that govern Raytown going to be enforced?
I thought Mike McDonough was Mayor of Raytown, but last night more than once I saw a bully. Even worse I had flashbacks to when Beler was police chief. Remember those days when if you were not white you got harassed by the police. A time when police brutality and guilt before proven guilt in a court of law ruled Raytown. A time when rookie Mike McDonough first took the streets under the leadership of a man who abused the power of the office for his own agenda. Sounds like tat rookie learned the wrong leadership skills. Is this the Raytown we all expect. Is this leadership that explains more and more businesses relocating outside of our city limits or deciding never to open within our city limits. We are not all sheep and we will not allow the continued abuse of a former police officer.
I saw that same post, but it was a repost. The message was from two newbies to Raytown from California. This doesn't change the underlying message you have about who has the power at city hall to decide who pays licenses and other fees like the majority and who thanks to a dark alley handshake get special privileges and treatment. I am sure the mayor if questioned will use his go to catch words like "transparency" or "follow the process" in an inefficient effort to hide the fact under his administration not everyone is treated equally. If nothing else he will wait until the end of a board meeting as with one too many board meets and have a public meltdown and demand he has the last words while never accepting his words and actions are both wrong and unacceptable. Something we all need to remind him of regardless of being a supporter or not as bad behavior and falsehood is a negative reflection on all of us in Raytown rather home owner or business owner.
What we really need to ask Garza is when will her new boss Phill LeVota send out property tax bills. I have yet to find someone who has gotten their bill for their residence. The problem is the payment is due December 31 and I surprised the television stations in the metro have not reported on the failure of the LeVota administration. I have been told I can go online and look my information up, and make a payment. What about those without a computer or other means to access the county website. This also means the county legislators that put LeVota in place need to explain why we are see more of the same failures of Frank White. Only difference is these are coming within days of taking office. None of use need late fees and interest added because 5 county legislators pick their friend instead of someone who wanted to work for the citizens of Jackson County. We can all pray 2026 will bring an all new county legislator group and someone as county executive that works for the people not their ego.
