The Paul Livius Report!

BY PAUL LIVIUS

Anyone who watched the last meeting of the Raytown Board of Aldermen received a short display of "Hypocrisy 101" by the Mayor.

The meeting was unique. It was the first meeting in over a year in which Latrice Thomas was seated at the podium. For those who need to a quick (what's going on moment), the Board recently found Latrice innocent of eight counts of malfeasance in office initiated by Mayor Michael McDonough.

Even though all eight counts did not have the support of enough members of the Board of Aldermen to approve them, three members of the Board, Alderwomen Janet Emerson, Bonnaye Mims and Alderman Jim Aziere refused to vote to "not approve" the record of the meeting as accurate.

Which was interesting, because all five attorneys in attendance during the hearing informed the Board of Aldermen they were obligated to approve the votes they had already taken.

Oh well . . . some things can be explained. Some most definitely cannot!

Back to my Report . . .

The first business item of all Board meetings is roll call. During this historic meeting, historic because all ten members of the Board were present for the first time in over a year . . . a member in the audience clapped his hands two times to recognize Latrice Thomas being in attendance at the meeting in the seat she was elected to over two years ago.

The Mayor, stopped the meeting to admonish the individual for "applauding" when Ms. Thomas' name was called.

Which was not a surprise. Because the person applauding by clapping his hands two times was Morris Melloy. A frequent critic of the Mayor, and a supporter of Alderwoman Thomas.

The Mayor frequently uses his "bully pulpit" as Chairman of the meeting to attack and interrupt Mr. Morris frequently when Melloy is using his five minutes in Public Comments to discuss city issues.

I am reminded of a historic comment often during the Middle Ages . . . . "The rules made by the King, are not for the King!

Enough said!

Everyone please have a good week and please, please, please, remember to vote on Tuesday, November 3rd in the Mid-Tem Elections.

As a union member I well know we should never give any money to any candidate at any elected level that refuses to support amendment 6 this November the third.

After watching last night's football game, it is clear that we need to demand that that final score not be certified.

Would Azier, Emerson and Mims please explain the steps that need to be taken to overturn last night's final score and grant the kansas city chiefs, a win.

We recently received a comment regarding Amendment Six on the ballot for the November 3, 2026 Election. When publishing this week's Raytown Report we decided it would be in the best interest of issues / initiatives to be posted with the clear understanding the final (legal) ballot language would be provided to all voters on the November 3rd Ballot.

That is why we used the abbreviated ballot headings to show he the public what to expect to find on the April 3rd ballot.

For reasons that are not clear to us, the information on Amendment Six was not included with the package for our story.

In an effort to remain impartial on the language provided we remind our readers . . . "The complete and official ballot language will be on the ballots when you go to vote."

We apologize the for the Amendment Six abbreviated language not being included with our original story. We are looking into the problem to make certain it will not happen this way again.
