Board to consider
Increasing salary
(for themselves)
The Raytown Board of Aldermen is considering increasing its monthly salary compensation to $450 per month with a monthly auto allowance of $75.00 per month. The increase would bring the total paid to each member of the Board of Aldermen to $6,300 annually.
The increase would become effective in April of 2025, after certification of election of newly elected members to the Raytown Board of Aldermen. One hal of the Board of Aldermen is up for election in April of 2025.
Since this bill is an ordinance, it will require two readings before the Board of Aldermen for approval. The first reading is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12th. The second reading will be held on Tuesday, November 19th. Due to the recent Presidential Election the twice per month meetings have to be held in back to back business sessions.
The Public is allowed to address the proposed ordinance
during Public Comments at either meeting.
All
salary increases require approval by a majority of the ten member Raytown Board
of Aldermen.

Can anyone find out how much money the Raytown School District wasted trying to sue the Raytown Fire District? The school District lost on all counts and should have spent our tax dollars on the children. Way to go.
Do you mean increase "to" $6300 annually as opposed to increase "of" $6300 annually? Not commenting on the increase at all but I think the increase is $1500.
Thank you for pointing out the error in our story regarding the BOA pay increase. We have corrected the error.
Why is the city of Raytown having a meeting at the wellness center and not at city hall. The city just spent how much money on a renovation. Based on the fact our Mayor and Board don't want to use the city's own build shows the lack tp manage the city's business. Just one more reason we need to be thankful five of these fools are up for election in April. It is too bad Raytown doesn't have a print paper anymore as I believe half the wasteful spending wouldn't happen. I cannot wait until citizens start calling our elected officials out while the shop, attend church or other events for the condition of our city and spending of a sailor on leave in the red light district.
I just want to say how blessed we are to have Ralph Monaco leading the elected officials compensation review committee. As a former state representative, he has the knowledge and back to understand the challenges of finding individuals who are actual leaders Vs. those whom believe they have those skills. I'm sure Mr. Monaco has seen not ob the decline in the way our city is managed, but more so the decline in individuals who truly want to move Raytown forward. Fewer people have stepped up over the past 10 years to serve as Alderman. We can only hope that this additional salary will bring out educated, caring, and ethical individuals. As the current pay has a board heavy with yes individuals to both the mayor and the city administrator. Educated individuals will know as a 4th class city a majority of the Board of Alderman run the city. Our own Mayor likes to run around town and remind everyone not to blame him as he only vote in a tie. That is true except when the board believes how every he tells them to vote they must do so. As far as staff like the city administrator, we need elected officials who understand he serves at the pleasure of the board and can be removed at any time for cause. Drive around the city and ask yourself based on the condition of the city and corresponding ordinance (city laws) if there is not more than enough justification for cause.
Why not increase the salary for the board. These are the same individuals who voted a pay increase for department heads that do less and less every year. Who else has noticed the increase in code violations the last couple of years, but that is okay have a raise for just being you. I know I have read on this very blog about the people who notice expired tags or speeding vehicles of visible to everyone, but the police. The ability to look the other way is a great skill we need to give that department head a raise too. If that is not exciting enough, we have one department head who it is said has forgotten what city hall looks like. While corporate America is in a return to office or find new opportunities. That is a classic move and one that should raised. The Board has been inspired by their greatness and bright minds that by all mean the leadership of city hall needs the best pay increase of all.
