The Mayor and five members of the Raytown Board of Aldermen (Schlapia, Hamilton, Riehle, Creamer, Ertz) have sponsored a bill to replace the city’s logo with a new design. Most people will not get too excited about that event one way or another. But the way they are going about it – and what they have designed to replace the black smith pounding an anvil with his hammer leaves a lot to be desired. To be fair, the readers should know that I am partial on this debate. I like the little guy with the hammer logo. It speaks to a small part of history in Raytown that harkens back to the days of the Santa Fe Trail and a blacksmith shop owned by a man named William Ray. The location of that shop is commemorated by a plaque located at 63rd Street and Old Raytown Road, the geographic center of what is now Downtown Raytown. It is also at the center of the city when it was first incorporated. (Raytown annexed additional land in later years to reach its current size) True, the logo is old fashion...

I am very concerned about the city's choice for a law firm and hope you understand that we the taxpayers expect answers. Answers that if not received will not only make you and your administration look bad, but leave us with no other option than requesting through petition to get the greatest awareness to the missouri supreme court about the same questions and ask for their independent review into the city's law firm.
The reality, if we are forced by you to take these steps that it could cause the city to struggle to find legal representation in the future at an affordable price as they to while not want to deal with taxpayer watch dogs because you refused to do the right thing either the public funds you oversee.
First of all we want honest answers and if you and the law firm the city won't give we are certain the State Supreme Court will take action again the city's law firm.
Do you have proof that the law firm told you to move forward with removing Alderman Thomas outside of 79.240?
Do you have proof as one of the Alderman claimed in writing from your choice of law firms with a state statute you are the boss of the Alderman?
Do you know when you choice of law firms will provide the required proof of the court case that a city was sued because an elected official abstained?
If you think we are wrong you might want to check with the Missouri Supreme Court and see if these are problems for the choice you have made for the city's law firm.
Every one has a day that they will find themselves accountable to someone. That accountability, it's now being brought forward. " We the people" as our founding fathers of this great nation said. We are tired of the tyranny. We are tired of the lack of respect. We, the people have proof of how our mayor has manipulated and granted special privileges that serve him and not the citizens of Raytown. This is destroyed, trust, this is destroyed our streets. If he thinks the we don't have the documentation regarding special treatment, the department heads then he is a fool. And through our efforts behind closed doors that he too enjoys, we have been able to obtain proof of other indiscretions that go against open government, something that he claims we have with his burst of transparency. The transparency is the thing lacking under his guidance. We need a new mayor and we need alderman, that represent the people and not just serve as a rubber stamp, smiling and bubbling their heads to repeat whatever the mayor tells them to. The things we have on certain senior staff, we'll make it clear that next April. Not only does there need to be a change in the elected leadership, but in the staffing leadership. We have term limits in Jefferson City. We have term limits for the president of the United States for a reason. 12 years of misguided, self-righteous
Because one man didn't get the pad on the back that he wanted during his time. As a police officer is been the most costly mistake. Raytown has ever made. Citizens pay attention for more is coming and the day of accountability is nearing.
Let's gather the boxes empty now and provide Em to City Hall. So the staffers can start packing because we are not getting the services promised. Paid for by the hard earned dollars that we give them.
We the people
As for your comments regarding the police, the only person who can answer that question would be the Chief of Police.
Anyway after listening to the menu, (poor audio quality) and making a choice from the list, I get another recording telling me that no one is available to take my call and to please leave a message. At least the automated voice was easy to hear. I understand that there are always exceptions, but on a Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, it seems like
there should be someone there. Here's the thing; to city hall, the caller's time has no value. The system exists for the convenience of whoever is receiving the call. Perhaps there is some money saved, perhaps they'll really get back with me in a timely manor. But the money saved, directly or indirectly, came out of a citizen's pocket. It never belonged to the city. The time lost was also donated by the individual. The idea for improvement, in this case, also came from citizens. I think our mayor is on record as saying that speed humps don't work. Hmm.
My initial reaction is to wonder about who raised the kid or person who did the shooting.
I thought this "bait and switch" ploy was only used by used car dealers. If our mayor was part of this scam, shame on him. I can assure you i will not be voting him to another term in office next April.
i sincerely hope someone with integrity will file for the office of Mayor. We need a change at City Hall. Next April cannot come soon enough.
